August 16th is a special day for both locals and tourists visiting Kyoto. This is because "Gozan no Okuribi," a summer tradition in Kyoto that signals the end of summer, is held. People in Kyoto light torches to brighten the path so that the souls of their ancestors, who returned for Obon, can return to the other world. You may have seen these "Gozan no Okuribi" on TV, but why not see them for yourself this year? Before departure, we will hold a briefing on "Gozan no Okuribi" while enjoying a bento meal from a long-established Kyoto restaurant. Each Bon fire, lit every five minutes, burns for about 30 minutes. After seeing the first character "Dai" (Large) appear on Mt. Nyoigatake, it's a rush from there! We will depart in a private vehicle so that everyone can see the characters and shapes that appear for a short amount of time! You will view "Myo," "Ho," "Funagata," and "Hidari Daimonji" from the car window, and for "Toriigata," you will get off the vehicle to see the fading embers (with a prayer). See, Learn, Feel, and Experience a higher level of "Gozan no Okuribi"!
</oembed>
